NBCC Web Recommended Web Site Resources

The National Black Catholic Congress (NBCC) would like to share web site resources to assist you in your ministry or in your personal life.

Abstinence for Singles

The challenges of sexual intercourse that many youth face today are more difficult than those of the baby-boomers, and previous generations through negative outside influences. In order to communicate with youth effectively, Mr. Washington presents his abstinence message on a level that young people understand. To learn more about speaker Darren Washington and his message on abstinence for singles visit his web site: www.abstinenceforsingles.com

Catholic News Service

The mission of Catholic News Service is the mission of the Church itself -- to spread the Gospel through contemporary means of communication. Our mission is to perform this task by reporting the news which affects Catholics in their everyday lives. Some of that news is good and some is bad, but it is what readers need to know in order to work for salvation. They need to know that there are saints in the making in the Church today and they need to know that there are sinners too. Our mission is to report fully, fairly and freely about the involvement of the Church in the world today. For more information visit: www.catholicnews.com

Hope after Abortion

For over 16 years, women and men have been coming to Project Rachel, the post-abortion ministry of the Catholic Church, for help in healing their emotional and spiritual wounds. The priests and counselors in the Project Rachel network understand the pain and loss that follow abortion. They have led thousands of grieving women and men from despair to hope and peace. Project Rachel has trained priests and professional counselors who can help you to heal spiritually and emotionally, no matter what faith tradition is yours. For more information visit: www.hopeafterabortion.com

New Advent

New Advent serves as a Catholic Encyclopedia. It proposes to give its readers full and authoritative information on the entire cycle of Catholic interests, action and doctrine. What the Church teaches and has taught; what she has done and is still doing for the highest welfare of mankind; her methods, past and present; her struggles, her triumphs, and the achievements of her members, not only for her own immediate benefit, but for the broadening and deepening of all true science, literature and art -- all come within the scope of the Catholic Encyclopedia. You may also wish to use Bible Gateway (not a catholic bible resource) which functions like a concordance or index and cross reference it with New Advent. The New American Bible is used by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). For information visit: www.newadvent.com and www.biblegateway.com.

The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry

The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry participates in the mission of the Catholic Church by advocating for and supporting Catholic youth ministry on the national, diocesan, and local level. As a professional organization of affiliated dioceses and collaborating members, they:

  • advocate for the role and needs of young people in the Church and in society and promote the role of the Church and the Gospel in the lives of young people.
  • promote a comprehensive approach to youth ministry as articulated in Renewing the Vision.
  • provide leadership, resources, services, and conferences for the education and formation of diocesan leaders, youth ministers, and young people.
  • support diocesan youth ministry leaders and collaborating members.
  • dialogue and collaborate with the U.S. Catholic Bishops and national leadership organizations for the promotion of youth ministry and the professional development of church leaders.
