ON, THEY HAVE NO WINE! Reflections on the Importance of Devotion to Mary

There is a growing trend in some Catholic institutions/communities that should be a cause for alarm to anyone entrusted with the care of souls and particularly with the spiritual formation of the youth. Knowing God with Both Your Heart and Mind

Comment on Youth Articles in the forum

To know God their must be a balance of head and heart knowledge. The head knowledge tells us what we are called to do, but the heart knowledge gives us the strength and conviction to actually do it. In our darkest and most trying times in life, we don't need to know about a father in heaven in our minds, we need to feel our heavenly Father in our hearts. People don't need to hear about a philosophy of God's love, they need to actually feel God's love in their hearts. People don't need anymore books about the lives of saints, they need people driven by a Holy Spirit filled heart who act like saints. People also don't need opinions, people need the truth. There are thousands of feel good opinions that lead to nothing but complacency. Too many people feel that their words are revelation, when a little bit of study would have shown them that revelation ended with the death of the last apostle.

There is a famous parable of a Pharisee and a tax collector. In some ways we are called to occupy both roles. We are called to have the conviction to confidently stand on the truths of our doctrine, but the humility to realize our nothingness and that the God we serve is bigger than the theology or doctrine upon which we stand. The bible tells us that the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, waiting for someone to devour. His job is to divide and conquer the church. For a long time he has been doing just that. We have been divided within the church in numerous ways, and while we have been fighting amongst ourselves we have lost sight of the true war, which is much bigger than our ego driven battles.
