What
in the world are we going to Buffalo for??? Don't they still have SNOW in July?
What in the world is there to DO in Buffalo????
BUFFALO, NEW YORK:
- ACCESSIBLE by major airlines,
bus, train and highways. 15 minute ride to the airport from downtown;
downtown Amtrak and Greyhound lines.
- AFFORDABLE! Hotels and transportations
costs are quite reasonable. Free light rail transit route connecting hotels.
- Within a 500 mile radius of over 50% of the US population!
- Less than one hr. by plane to NYC, Washington, DC and Toronto, Canada
- Diocese of Buffalo is home to
Niagara Falls - one of the 7 natural wonders of the world
- Major sites on the Underground
Railroad will be available for a pilgrimage and tour from
the Michigan St. Baptist Church in Buffalo to the Colored
Cemetery in Fort Erie, Canada to the BME (British Methodist
Episcopal) Church in St. Catharine's, Ontario - across the
road from where Harriet Tubman resided.
- Home of THE BUFFALO WINGS! You
think you know what they are? Wait until you try the
ORIGINAL BUFFALO WINGS at The Anchor Bar!!!! Or MY favorite,
barbecued chicken wings like NO other from La Nova Pizzeria.
- Situated on Lake Erie and 20
minutes from Niagara Falls and 40 minutes from
Lake Ontario.
Come and enjoy water activities.
- Soul Food, Caribbean Food,
African Food, Polish Food, German Food - home to Sahlen's
Hot Dogs (with skins); beef on kimmelweck; Weber's
horseradish mustard, etc. Buffalo produced foods that are
found NO other place will be available at one of the largest
TASTE OF (Buffalo) events in the country while the Congress
is in session.
- Harlem Book Fair will be back
for its 3rd year with famous authors on hand to speak about
their works.
- National Shrines, our
beautifully renovated Cathedral, Basilica's and the newest
Catholic Church in the City of Buffalo in over 35 years is
St. Martin de Porres (African American Congregation) will be
available for touring.
- Home and burial site of the
late Fr. Bede Abram, OFM, Conv.; Rick James (Musician);
Congresswoman Shirley Chisolm.
- Architectural wonders including
Frank Lloyd Wright homes; Frederick Law Olmstead designed
parks.
So, WHY come to Buffalo? Moreover, because we are known as the City of Good
Neighbors! Though historically ethnically settled as most northeastern cities,
the neighborhood atmosphere has remained.
The Congress Diocesan Implementation Team for the Diocese of Buffalo out of the
Office of Black Ministry has served as hosts for many previous national and
regional conferences (Joint Clergy and Sister's Conference 1994; NABCA Meetings
1990 and 2003; Congress Regional Meetings; etc.).
