Therese Wilson Favors is the Director of the Office of African
American Catholic Ministries for the Archdiocesan of Baltimore. She
has also served as the Coordinator of Elementary and Family
Catechesis for the Archdiocese. From 1985- 1987, Therese served as
the Planner for the 1987 National Black Catholic Congress. Shortly
after this, Congress, Therese was named the Executive Director for
the National Black Catholic Congress. Prior to these positions,
Therese served as Director of Evangelization and Community Outreach
for Corpus Christi Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Mrs. Favors has
extensive experience as an educator in both Catholic Schools and
parish religious education programs. She served on the Advisory
Board of the United States Catholic Conference- National Conference
of Catholic Bishops from 1973-76 and as Adjunct Professor for the
DeSales School of Theology and The Institute of Black Catholic
Studies at Xavier University.
Ms. Favors is the author of Rise Up and
Re-Build an educational resource commissioned by the National Black
Catholic Congress as a follow-up from Congress VII to assist African
American families in combating racism as well as to encourage
spiritual and cultural development (Can be obtained from the
National Black Catholic Congress-410-547-8496- $25.00 per copy). She
is the co-author of two filmstrips: Unraveling the Evangelical Cord
and Black Catholic Identify- If Rivers Could Speak. Her articles
have been published in Today's Catholic Teacher and Paulist Press
and she is the author of over 100 bible study booklets for African
American youth. She is the editor of God Bless Them Who Have Their
Own: African American Catechetical Camp Meetin' Proceedings
(obtained through USCCB Publishing 202-541-3137), "Keep on Teaching"
an africentric religious education resource (call Office of African
American Catholic Ministries 410-625-8472- $8.00 per copy), and of
the newly released book "What We Have Seen & Heard: Essays and
Stories of Black Catholics of Baltimore". Mrs. Wilson Favors has
contributed to resources in the arena of HIV/AIDS awareness. In year
2000 she launched with committed Black Catholics of Baltimore an
evangelization campaign entitled "Operation Faith Lift" to increase
parish awareness in neighborhoods and communities.
Mrs. Favors holds a Bachelor of Science
degree from Coppin State University and a Master's Degree in
Religious Education from St. Mary's Seminary, both of Baltimore.
