III. The Project/Building A Motherhouse
The yearning for the Daughters to have a real Motherhouse has been a source of strengthening solidarity for their community. The Congregation has acquired a piece of land for the purpose of building a Motherhouse. The current growth of the Congregation requires the building of a Motherhouse, a place to call home, an environment of prayer, solace and love; a place to gather, reflect, recharge and refresh for ministry; a place to come back to when disabled or aged; a place to welcome friends, benefactors and all. This home will help the sisters live their religious life to its fullness and share its fruits more adequately and generously with the people whom they serve.
The Motherhouse complex will include:
Chapel
A Chapel along with the silent/prayerful atmosphere vital to the life of contemplation and apostolic action of the sisters does not exist. Currently, the combined space of a family parlor and dining area serves as the chapel. This space is crowded and overflowing during prayers and morning Mass, leaving many sisters as well as guests outside under canopies erected in front of the building. There is no landscaping to facilitate silent reflections.
Library and Archives
There is no library or study rooms for the sisters. The Congregation is gradually losing its historic materials because of lack of proper storage and space.
Kitchen and Refectory
The current kitchen is approximately 220 square feet or about the size of a residential kitchen for a midsize family. Cooking is extremely difficult with the limitations of space and equipment.
The current refectory is located in a garage in the duplex building. It does not accommodate the sisters, as many eat outside or along the corridors.
Sleeping Quarters
A proper convent structure is needed with rooms to house all of the sisters in the Congregation.
Infirmary
An infirmary in the convent is both more economical and most appropriate to care for the elderly and infirm sisters in the same environment in which they have spent their religious lives. Presently, no infirmary exists. Although the Congregation is young, the first members to join are becoming elderly. The infirmary would also accommodate sisters who become ill.
Secretariat
A fast growing Pontifical Congregation that is international and ministering in different countries and continents needs a good secretariat and good means of communication using modern technology. Presently only the Superior General has a office. Other members of the General Council use their bedrooms or corridors for offices.
