On July 10, 2004, inspired by the vision of our pastor, Fr. Robert M. Kearns, S.S.J., and under the leadership of the Parish Council, our Neighbor-to-Neighbor Project began.
All projects have what, why, how, who and when questions:
|
What: |
to reach out to the community beyond the walls of St. Brigid Catholic Church; |
|
Why: |
to introduce the Church Community of St. Brigid to the individual home dweller and to stress the idea of the church wanting to know others who live in the neighborhood; |
|
How: |
house to house visits to all who live within the official boundaries of the parish;
|
|
Who: |
the members of St. Brigid Parish; |
|
When: |
3 hours on
Saturday mornings |
We want our "neighbors" to know that the Catholic Community is concerned about all who live in the neighborhood regardless of parish membership, religious church affiliation or non-affiliation. As part of our evangelization, an invitation is extended to our neighbors to participate in the social, educational and religious activities of the church.
A total of 29 members of the parish gathered to pray and walk on that memorable day in July. Our Chairperson, Mary Jackson, gave us a brief summary of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Project and we did role-playing for potential conversations when we greeted our neighbors. Fr. Kearns led all in prayer asking for protection as we ventured into the surrounding neighborhood, but more importantly, asking the Holy Spirit to guide us, give us patience and the verbal skills to reach out to all members of the community.
